Testimonials

“I’ve hosted a lot of events and workshops, and this was by far my favorite workshop we’ve done. We spend all day every day writing emails, holding phone calls and video conferences—communicating with words. It was an amazing feeling to put that aside for a while and be in sync without using any of our normal communication methods - just our hands and our listening skills. Craig was a skilled facilitator - he really did his homework before the workshop and impressed people with his knowledge of our company— and that added to the good vibes employees were feeling. We even got positive reviews from people who couldn’t participate but were listening from their desks. All in all, I would love to host this event again given the chance.”
— Orlee Maimon, Director of Operations, Kenshoo
Craig’s drumming workshop was the highlight of our company’s team retreat. He was able to take our company’s values and mission and turn them into an engaging exercise that allowed everyone to truly think about the work we are doing. Whenever I hear our values in a meeting I still think of saying them to the beat of the drum. More importantly, it was a fun way to bring together our team and have us exercise team building skills

Craig Bravo miller

Music is medicine.

I felt this at an early age and never looked back. My first instrument was the drum set, which I still practice every day.In my early 20’s, I travelled to Medellin, Colombia, where I ended up living for 2 years. Mainly I was seeking an adventure, but what I found was deep and rich music that moves my soul. I ended up traveling through many parts of Colombia studying Afro-Colombian rhythms with different teachers.

My perception of rhythm, drumming, and music shifted a lot during this time. I visited many small villages in Colombia, and I saw the way the music brought people together to celebrate, mourn, and honor the elements of life. Before that, I was boxed in to the idea that only some people are musicians. They perform while everyone else watches.

I returned from Colombia in 2005 and moved to the Bay Area where I quickly found West African drumming. I immediately fell in love with the Djembe, DunDun, Balafon, and so many beautiful rhythms from West Africa. A few years later, I studied in both Guinea and Ghana and deepened my love and connection to the music even further.

Initially, I didn’t have any intentions of becoming a drum facilitator. My focus was on making music, nothing else. The world simply placed drum facilitation in my hands, and I squeezed tight.

In my mid-20’s, I became a backup drummer, the pulse holder, for a few different companies that offer team building through interactive drumming, where everyone in the room gets an instrument. A transformation happened at every single event. All of these people, many of whom had never played music, were drumming together in one heartbeat.

A few years later, I woke up one morning, and it was clear to me that I was supposed to facilitate these type of events. I dove right in.

A unique creation happens inside every single group I work with. It holds true across age, culture, and economic status. This deep connection helps people communicate on a level we can’t reach with verbal language. It’s an expansive place, and we as humans respond to it innately.

Helping people reconnect with this internal rhythm, this magic gem we all own, has been some of the most powerful work I’ve done. It’s truly wonderful to see people step into their power. I look forward to many more years of growing with community around the drum.
